Sorrow

Sorrow

Ecclesiastes 7:2-4 NLT
² Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties.
    After all, everyone dies
so the living should take this to heart.
³ Sorrow is better than laughter,
for sadness has a refining influence on us.
A wise person thinks a lot about death,
while a fool thinks only about having a good time.

Psalm 90:12
Teach us to realize the brevity of life,
so that we may grow in wisdom.

2 Corinthians 7:10
For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.

2 Samuel 12:13
Then David confessed to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”

Nathan replied, “Yes, but the Lord has forgiven you, and you won’t die for this sin.

Psalm 32:10
Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord.

Matthew 26:75
Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And he went away, weeping bitterly.

After death

I see Christians online who believe that when we die, we "soul sleep", to be resurrected at the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Well, I found a verse that makes very clear what happens to our soul when we die.  When we die, our body goes back to the earth and becomes dust and our soul does not sleep with the body in the grave, it goes back to God immediately after death to be with God our Creator for all eternity.  Yay!

and the dust returns to the earth as it once was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

God Will Supply

There was a drought and a famine in Israel.  It was punishment because of king Ahab committing more evil than all who were before him.

So God sent Elijah to Ahab to tell him about this.  Then God sent Elijah to hide from persecution at a brook where He said He would send ravens to feed Elijah.  Well because of the drought, the brook dried up.  So God sent Elijah to another place where God had commanded a widow to provide for Elijah.
Elijah asked the widow for some water and as she was about to get it, he asked her for some bread, but she did not have any bread.  She was actually getting ready to die with her son because she was about to use the last flour and oil that she had and then they had nothing, so they were going to die.

So Elijah told her not to fear, but to bake him a small cake and bring to him and then to make for her and her son for God said that the bin of flour shall not be used up and the jar of oil shall not run dry until the Lord let it rain again!  Everything happened according to the word which the Lord spoke.

Then the woman's son became deathly ill and he died.  Elijah cried out to God and God brought him back to life.

This just shows how our God provides for us, our Jehovah Jireh, the Lord our Provider!  We can see Elijah's obedience to God, his trust in God.  There was a drought!  God provided him with water.  There was a famine and God provided him food in a miraculous way!  There was death, God gave life!  Our God is so awesome, so loving, so kind to His faithful ones.

Let us never forget to remain true to God and trust in Him no matter what our situation may be.  God always has a plan and He will supply all our needs.  Look how He clothes the flowers in the field, He feeds the birds of the air.  You are much more valuable than they are!

6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.  14 For thus says the Lord God of Israel: 'The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.' "  21 And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, "O Lord my God, I pray, let this child's soul come back to him." 22 Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived. •~1 Kings 17:6,14,21-22
